"The variety and quality of activities and tutorials is so great, I think just about anyone can find a use for it."
Meet Tiffany Canody, Language Teacher at York High, and discover how they have been using This is School as part of their French lessons!
Why did you start looking for a tool like This is School?
As a French teacher, I struggle to find authentic audios for my students. This is School offers them, and by themes, which is so helpful.
What initially drew you to use This is School?
The variety of activities.
What other platforms did you compare us with? / What were you using before This is School?
I used This is School when it was thisislanguage in a previous district and wanted to continue with it at my new one; I did not use any other platform and saw no others that compared!
What impact or results have you seen since using This is School?
Students now really enjoy vocab more now because of playing Nutty Tilez.
What parts of This is School are your favorite? How about your students’?
I love assigning points targets and students can then do whatever they want to earn those points; students tend to love Nutty Tilez best.
I assign points targets to students each quarter to use as a “bonus points” assignment. Each level has a different amount they must reach by the end of the quarter (for example, in quarter one, Level 1 needed 25 points, but my IB Seniors needed 200). The vast majority of students play Nutty Tilez to reach this goal, but I did have some practice some grammar in quarter four. I plan to branch out and ask certain groups to earn the points in certain ways in the future, especially as there are so many different kinds of activities available to them.
Would you recommend This is School to others? Why?
For sure. The variety and quality of activities and tutorials is so great, I think just about anyone can find a use for it - from being a supplementary or extra credit support, to so much more.
